Interested in representing people seeking justice? Want to work with nationally successful law firms?
Read on.
What is For the Plaintiff?
For the Plaintiff connects law students with nationally known plaintiffs’ firms that need help on a project basis. The work ranges from smaller (2-3 hours) to larger (20+ hours) projects, and includes everything from helping prep depositions to drafting motions to working with experts, and everything in between. Compensation is $60/hour. Projects are posted mostly during the school year, and students can respond to express interest.
The program is a great way to learn what plaintiffs’ work actually is, as well as develop lasting relationships with plaintiffs’ firms that can lead to careers on the plaintiffs’ side.
Who is For the Plaintiff?
For the Plaintiff is a program sponsored by Walkup, Melodia, Kelly & Schoenberger in San Francisco. Walkup is a nationally recognized catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death firm that has been representing plaintiffs since 1959.
Spencer is a Shareholder at Walkup. A Berkeley Law graduate, he runs the school’s trial competition program, lectures in trial advocacy, and for many years has hired students on a project basis to help with many aspects of his practice. The program has been a huge success, and is now becoming slightly more formalized by reaching out to students at other law schools to offer more students the opportunity to do plaintiffs’ side work.
